Next, assuming it is worth it, I’ve narrowed down my choices to Protonmail, Fastmail, and. So my first question is, considering my threat model, is it worth the effort to switch to another provider, or am I chasing privacy that won’t exist at the next provider either? I’m not concerned about people who have enough power to “legally” get anything they want despite my objections, I’m just not willing to accept the functional tradeoff for that level of privacy. My threat model is basically just I don’t want my data mined for ads, or to build digital profiles, or to track me across the web.
While researching replacements, I’ve come across several posts that flat out state google does not scan/mine workspace mailboxes, at least not more than any email provider that isn’t zero knowledge end to end. However, the main reason I was doing that was privacy.
